The cameras perform a function consisting of a closed chamber, with an opening at one end so that light can enter, and a recording surface or display to capture the light at the other end. Most cameras have a lens placed in front of the camera aperture to collect the incoming light and focus the image, or part of the image on the recording surface. The diameter of this opening usually controlled with a diaphragm, but some cameras have an aperture of fixed size.
